Palak calls not to share personal information to Facebook or Google

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day-2024 was celebrated nationally with the theme of 'Digital Innovation, Sustainable Development' and showing its AI magic. A special bulletin was published on the occasion of the day.

The Digital Twin of ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak welcomed the guests at the beginning of the main program of the day at Osmani Memirial Auditorium in the capital on Friday. Abdul Bari, policy advisor of EDGE project, presented the keynote. In his presentation, he highlighted the potential benefits of innovation by 2030.

It was informed at the event that one crore people are getting digital citizen services every month from 9600 digital centers spread across the country. 13 crore users connected to the internet now use about 6000 Gbps bandwidth. Telecommunication services are available everywhere in Bangladesh on land, water and space. Now working on generative and predictive to provide AI powered personalized government brain services. Web and mobile app services will then be transformed into generative AI. Domestic assets including TSS will be pooled and transformed into a profitable enterprise in a public-private joint partnership.

Post and Telecommunication Secretary Abu Hena Morshed Zaman presided over the event while BTRC Chairman Engineer Mohiuddin Ahmed; Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited Chairman Dr. Shahjahan Mahmud; Additional Secretary of Posts and Telecommunications Division AKM Amirul Islam and Information and Communication Technology Secretary Shamsul Arefin.

‘Anyone can start an innovation’, said the ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin in a video message after welcoming the day. “Digital media not only empowers us by connecting our ideas, it also builds bonds with each other. State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak released the inaugural envelopes and seals released on the occasion of the day through small postal peons. He also announced the network sharing agreement of two mobile network operators Robi Axiata Limited and Banglalink on the occasion and handed over prizes to the winners of the debate and essay writing competition organized to mark the occasion of the day. Dhaka University team won the debate competition. The members of this party are - Md Hasan Tariq Khan, Md Redwan Molla and Motasim Fuad. The runners up students of Dhaka College are - Abu Bakar Sayem, Md. Shahadat Hossain and Mahmudul Hasan. In the essay competition, Shafiqul Islam came first, Adrita Afrin came second and Md. Shahadat Hossain came third.

While speaking as the chief guest, the Minister of State for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak informed that, the new law is in place to utilize the potential of AI and further said that, it will be a crime if labels are not added to AI videos. At the same time, he suggested using password or facial recognition on everyone's personal mobile phone, and urged them not to give their personal information to Facebook or Google.

He said that as futuristic technologies are making life easier, they are putting our personal lives, families and national and international lives at risks too. If Facebook, Google Bank, local and foreign companies know your likings and disliking, sufferings, sorrows; Then it will slowly affect you. Now like watching 100 movies on Netflix, later it is suggesting movies according to your choice. When listening to songs on Spotify, it will tell you to listen one after the other. The situation is such that after a passage of time, they will also tell you whom to marry. Robots will become playmates. Therefore, we are taking initiatives to protect citizens' information and protect national sovereignty.

For the security of the defense sector, Palak expressed the hope of launching Bangabandhu-2 earth observatory satellite with optical radar within the next 5 years and said that the new broadband internet policy will be passed this year. There broadband internet speed will be minimum 20 Mbps.
